The company COMPACT-PROJECT.PL SP. Z .O.O. was contracted to assess the load-bearing capacity of the tower structure, following the addition of the structure for the construction of a base station by a new operator on the same facility. As a result of the loads and load-bearing capacity analysis, it was stated in the Technical Advice that it was necessary to design and prepare reinforcement for the shaft of the CP.52-U type tower.
In the case of telecommunications towers made of circular hollow sections, the most common reason for reinforcement is the use of a component's lateral buckling resistance, and also the use of the section's compression resistance in the case of large extensions.
The lateral buckling resistance of a component can be improved, for example, by:
1. Reduction of the buckling length of the component being compressed;
2. Increase of the cross-section of the component being compressed.
In most cases, option 1 of reinforcement is selected. Option 2, which consists in increasing the cross-section, is associated with difficult workmanship and high material consumption and is applied if the cross-section's compression resistance is insufficient.
The scope of works included the reinforcement of the tower's shaft structure, i.e. kerbs in segments S-6, S-7, S-8, S-9. The reinforcement of the segments was designed in the form of additional truss reducing lateral buckling lengths of the above mentioned elements of the tower structure. The truss elements are designed using circular hollow sections. They were fixed on one side to the tower's kerbs by means of steel sheet clamps and on the other side to the existing tower's cross-braces by means of embracing components designed.
The cooperation so far allows us to highly recommend Compact-Project.PL Sp. z o.o. as a co-operation partner according to the company's specifications.
